FIRST HOME
First Home is an exhibition of painting and sculpture by artist-in-residence Evan Kikawa. Throughout adolescence we prize carefree activities and creative expression but lack communication skills to manifest and integrate these ideals outside the imagination. As we mature, this lack of realization often gives rise to ambiguous relationships with self. Evan invites the viewer to investigate both gradual and extreme transitions of inner and outer milieu through his use of color and material displacement. Why is it, he wonders, that truths wholly spoken are often spoken too late?
Evan Kikawa is a Brooklyn-based, multi-disciplinary artist whose painting, casting, and sculpting considers how we process the past. Inspired by color and provoked by emotion, his works come together through a combination of harsh metals and natural materials. His desire for the viewer to look within is the driving force behind his art.
