And now, a word from the artist:
This body of work explores the mysteries of form, color, space, and texture. Through the use of clashing forms and flat color fields, I attempt to create simple and bold compositions that balance depth with negative space. Individual works are strategically positioned into pairs and triptychs, allowing the viewer to appreciate specific aspects in unison with a whole, grander vision. Shifts in perspective from large-scale canvas to smaller drawings strive to bridge micro and macro worlds via coherent imagery.
Like the great Spanish painter and sculptor, Pablo Palazuelo, my attention is focused on the nature of form itself rather than its representations. Straight lines with rounded edges soften the intensity of dynamic shapes, inviting playful interaction with the eye. To soften structured edges, I began experimenting with different textures and gradients that became indicative of the human touch. Several works include areas of spiraling lines that reverberate a dream-like energy reminiscent of Aboriginal paintings. Approach as if the gallery is a cave, and you are immersed in a feeling that transcends isolation.
