SAGA

Chinatown Soup is delighted to present Saga, a mixed media, narrative exhibition by resident artist Megan Lee, featuring Ariana Calabrese that is on view from Tuesday, September 7th through Sunday, September 19th. Please join us for an open mic accompaniment on Wednesday, September 15th, RSVP here.

Saga combines painting, poetry, and AR technology to create evocative vignettes that recall lost memories. Through its ephemeral nature, Saga abstracts recognizable structures and traditional form in an experience where thoughts and images drift and flow to reveal the deep yearning—for understanding, for return—that burns at its core. We invite visitors to engage with the pieces and reflect.

Megan is an artist and digital designer based in Brooklyn. Her design practice constantly informs her painting and vice versa, distilling essences through color and expression to capture the energy of a fleeting moment. She received her BFA from Pratt Institute in 2018, is currently an artist-in-residence at Chinatown Soup, and works as a designer at Deloitte Digital. Previously, Megan participated in the Uncommon Artist Residency at the Sound View Inn in Greenport, NY, Two Moons at Home Gallery NYC, The Dollhouse show in Watermill, NY, and has produced several commercial installations for brands including Bandier and Splits59.

Arianna is a poet, jewelry designer, and sustainability consultant working at the intersection of artistic tradition and socio-environmental liberation. A 2015 Fellow at the Lannan Center for Poetics and Social Practice, she founded Communion, a platform that guides readers to use poetry as a catalyst for social and political action. Her artistic practice is her ‘portable paradise.’ Her poem Saga draws inspiration from the great Matsuo Bashō and Zuihitsu poetry, or poetry of the running brush.

Megan and Arianna have been friends since 6th grade <3
