GOBLIN MARKET
Past and present merge in Goblin Market, where objects and stories hold uncanny magic. Inspired by Christina Rossetti’s titular poem, set in the fog of Victorian-era early spring, this installation reimagines the traditional flea market as a space where desires are tempted, choices have weight, and stories unfold.
In Goblin Market (1862), the act of buying and selling is deeper (and darker) than commerce. It becomes a celebration of human creativity, a reflection on our consumer-driven society, and a gateway for interdimensional beings seeking to provoke and upend human nature.
Visitors are invited to wander, discover, and consider what it means to be both a consumer and a creator in a world of tempting offers and constant exchanges. Alongside rare books, local artist-made goods, and a special, period vintage edit, live readings summon the spirit of the market.
We are delighted to welcome back Elizabeth New of Interesting Editions, returning curator extraordinaire, whose keen eye for the strange and the storied brings this year’s market to life. Come share an inspired tale on-theme, or simply listen. All voices are welcome.
